Fried Green Tomatoes

Well, seeing as it is the end of summer, I felt it appropriate to start out with my renderings on the movie Fried Green Tomatoes.
The movie teams up Academy Award winners Kathy Bates and Jessica Tandy, with outstanding performances by Mary Stuart Masterson and Mary Louise Parker.
I have to admit, Fried Green Tomatoes is one of my all time faves. I watch it usually once a week!!! There is just something about the strength and devotion of the friendship between the two main characters Idggie & Ruth, that cause me to desire friends such as these.
The story ebbs and flows thru the past and future of the lives of its characters just as the water in the lake does. The lake that houses a BIG secret that uses up so much of the characters strength and occupies so much of their lives.
I was surprised to learn that the novel "Fried Green Tomatoes, at The Whistle Stop Cafe" was actually written by Fannie Flagg. Many may know her from her comedy writing days or her hilariously funny appearances on the Hollywood Squares.
Set In the South ( Alabama to be exact ) the story delves into the rich heritage and culture of the people there. During a very nervous time when blacks and whites were re-defining there relationships with one another.
Friendships, I guess that sums up this movie to me in one word.
Rent Fried Green Tomatoes today before the summer is gone, and experience a little bit of those times gone by.
