Indiana - YEAH! (LINK)

'Raiders of the Lost Ark' was certainly one of my favorite movies as a kid and the best of the three Indiana movies released thus far. All the little things about it were good: the scripting was light and tight, the effects were believeable, the music was dramatic and overt and the casting was fabulous. Is that Alfred Molina in the first scene in the jungle?
Tom Selleck turned down the role that boosted Harrison Ford beyond Star Wars and into the limelight, and no doubt, helped make him a seriously wealthy man with the first of the (up til now) Indiana Jones trilogy 'Raiders of the Lost Ark'. His somewhat goofy portrayal of the flawed and fit Indiana sent hearts racing for adventure and lurve. Well, mine anyway.
How I wished he'd mutter my name in consternation or fear for my life - 'Alyson' doesn't have the same ring as 'Marion', but hell, I would have changed it. And yes, my grasp on reality slips from time to time - that's what a good movie should do for you.
Marion, played by Karen Allen (who was also up for the part of Princess Leia - how small was Hollywood in the 70s/80s anyway?), was his irritating and scrappy love interest in a stunning role that none of the other Indiana Jones female leads ever came close to. It will be exciting to see her return in the soon to be released Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. We haven't seen much of this skilled actress as she has preferred the stage, but you might recall her in Starman if you're over 35 or The Perfect Storm.
And as for the fourth installment...well, if you were a fan like me, I imagine you will be excited as I am and yet....it's an awful lot of pressure. Harrison is much older now, which is fine if the film keeps that in perspective. Cute as he is, I'd be disappointed to see him swanning around with a woman in her early 20's. Even Anne Heche seemed a bit of stretch in 'Six Days, Seven Nights' and I love the man. A cast including Cate Blanchett is hopeful, but much rests on the storyline and scripting (BTW, M. Night Shyamalan was asked to contribute to the screenplay - for all you M. Night fans out there...which would be me
)
I'll be at the release of the new Indiana Jones film, and I will be cheering and hopeful, but if you see chocolate marks on my blog of that movie review - just send me sympathy.
I convinced my sons to watch Raiders with me this morning. Their reaction? 'Some of these old movies are pretty cool.'
Why, I oughta....
